Rayan Chikhi
Researcher
Institut Pasteur
Rayan Chikhi is a computer scientist and Head of the Sequence Bioinformatics Unit at Institut Pasteur.
Chikhi specializes in DNA sequence analysis with a primary focus on genomics and metagenomics, and additional interests in pangenomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics.
Together with his team, Chikhi develops computational tools directly applicable to bioinformatics and biology. Their work includes analyzing all DNA across the planet to help identify future virus threats proactively, and discovering new plastic-degrading enzymes with improved efficacy.
Within AEGIS, he leads work on methods for large-scale indexing and alignment of sequence data. In this context, he develops computational approaches based on the Logan project to enable efficient search across very large DNA and protein sequence collections, with applications relevant to ancient and modern genomic data.
