Marnix Medema is Professor and Chair of Bioinformatics at Wageningen University, where he leads the Bioinformatics Group. He also holds a part time Professorship at Leiden University.
His research centers on the computational analysis of specialised metabolism in bacteria, fungi, and plants.
With a focus on both fundamental and applied bioinformatics in the green life sciences, Medema and his group develop and apply novel computational methods for analysing and integrating multi-omics data.
In AEGIS, the team contributes by developing genome reference collections for functional profiling and by developing and applying computational methods for the functional analysis of microbial and plant environmental DNA, with a focus on metabolic gene clusters.
