Elsa Tsioumani

Transdisciplinary Institute for Environmental and Social Studies
Elsa Tsioumani is an international lawyer and scholar based in Thessaloniki, Greece. Her work focuses on international environmental law and policy related to biodiversity, agriculture, human rights, and the governance of emerging technologies.
Currently with the Transdisciplinary Institute for Environmental and Social Studies, Tsioumani has held a series of research positions in academia, including with the University of Liège and the University of Trento. She is also a team leader for the Earth Negotiations Bulletin at the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD).
Over her 25 years at IISD, Tsioumani has observed and analyzed developments in international law and policy across numerous environmental and sustainable development fora, including the negotiations leading to the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) and the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit sharing.
Tsioumani is a member of the AEGIS Ethics Advisory Board.
