Recovering sediments

In early August 2025, a Globe Institute team led by Professor Kurt H. Kjær recovered a sediment core from Martine Lake at the Ledreborg Landscape Laboratory. The sediments preserve ancient environmental DNA from local plants, crops, microbes, and pollen. AEGIS will sequence the eDNA to track biodiversity and land-use change through time and compare the results with Ledreborg estate archives – generating insights into biodiversity change, crop history, and soil ecosystem health.
