Antonio Fernandez-Guerra is an Assistant Professor in the Section for GeoGenetics at the Globe Institute, University of Copenhagen, where he leads the Microbial EcoGenomics Group.
His research sits at the interface of computational biology, microbial ecology, and genomics, focusing on how modern and ancient microbial communities can reveal environmental change, ecosystem function, and biological potential across time. His research group develops computational and analytical approaches for extracting functional insight from complex environmental samples, including ancient environmental DNA.
Within AEGIS, Fernandez-Guerra leads the microbial functional research component, reconstructing the spatio-temporal dynamics of ancient microbial communities and exploring how the microbial past can inform biosolutions for the future. He is also a member of the AEGIS Scientific Steering Committee.
